Lizzie Gladwell Crisis

A true story of safeguarding failure and a call for change to protect young people with FASD.

Family of Bird

Welcome to our campaign for societal change.

The Lizzie Gladwell Crisis campaign aims to expose systemic failures that left a vulnerable young woman unprotected and to raise awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) — a lifelong condition affecting brain function, behaviour, and social skills, yet still widely misunderstood.

Who is Lizzie Gladwell?

Lizzie was a beautiful soul, deeply loved by family and friends. Despite having Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), which impacted her understanding and decision-making, Lizzie thrived in a loving home environment. Chronologically a teenager, her functional age was that of a child, making her vulnerable to manipulation. The day after her eighteenth birthday, she was taken from outside her home.

What is FASD?

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong condition caused by alcohol exposure in the womb, resulting in permanent brain damage that affects thinking, learning, communication and interactions. Affected individuals are suggestible and easily manipulated due to their trusting nature and difficulties with memory and reasoning, making them vulnerable to exploitation, coercion and harm.

A father’s fight against systemic betrayal.

Hear the real story of Jeremy Gladwell, whose daughter Lizzie was taken from outside their home the day after her eighteenth birthday.

Told through both a podcast and blog, Jeremy recounts how Lizzie was isolated, coerced, and exploited, while statutory agencies failed to protect her—ignoring her family’s pleas and enabling the abuse.
